TCOT-A Timeout-Based Mobile Transaction Commitment Protocol
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a transaction commit protocol “Transaction Commit On Timeout (TCOT)” based on a “timeout” approach for Mobile Database Systems (MDS), which can be universally used to reach a final transaction termination decision (e.g., commit, abort, etc.) in any message oriented system. Particularly suited for a wireless environment, a timeout mechanism is the only way to minimize the impact of the slow and unreliable wireless link. We compare TCOT to a modified version of 2PC to show its superiority based on commit time.

Comparison Study of Commit Protocols for Mobile Environment
This paper presents a study of protocols to commit the transactions distributed over several mobile and fixed units and provides the method to handle mobility at the application layer. It describes the solutions to defeat the dilemma related to principle implementation of the Two Phase Commit (2PC) protocol which is essential to ensure the consistent commitment of distributed transactions. The ...
متن کاملTransaction Commitment Protocols for Mobile Wireless Environment
Mobile computing has attracted attention of intensive researches during the recent years. Many papers revisit the conventional implementation of distributed computing paradigms for use in this new environment. A key paradigm of the transaction processing is the transaction commitment. A commitment mechanism such as Two Phases commit (2PC) Protocol, a fundamental asset of transactional technolog...
متن کاملOn the Performance Potential of Connection Fault-Tolerant Commit Processing in Mobile Environment
Mobile inventory, mobile commerce, banking and/or commercial applications are some distinctive examples that increasingly use distributed transactions. It is inevitably harder to design efficient commit protocols, due to some intrinsic mobile environment limitations. A handful of protocols for transaction processing have been offered, but the majority considers only a limited number of communic...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of a Connection Fault-Tolerant Model for Distributed Transaction Processing in Mobile Computing Environment
Mobile embedded systems increasingly use transactions for applications like mobile inventory, mobile commerce or commercial applications. Yet, many issues are challenging and need to be resolved before enabling mobile devices to take part in distributed computing. Mobile environment limitations make it harder to design appropriate and efficient commit protocols. There are a handful of protocols...
متن کاملFault-Tolerant Distributed Systems: a Modular Approach to the Non-Blocking Atomic Commitment Problem
Agreement problems allow a set of processes to agree on a common output value. These problems are of primary importance in distributed systems and di cult to solve in presence of failures. This paper considers one of these problems whose practical interest is well known, namely the NonBlocking Atomic Commitment Problem. First, a generic protocol solving this problem is given and then instantiat...
